Hey small business owner! I can see you spinning your wheels every time you go to post on Instagram.

You know you are “supposed” to but it never seems to work. You spend hours agonizing over what to talk about, feel that pang of guilt every time you open the app because you know you should be posting but just can’t figure out what to say.

And, even when you finally figure it out, spend your time writing the post…. Silence. No one comments, you get a few measly likes and no one actually buys anything from you.

So what’s the point?

Well, what if you could change that?

And better yet, what if it could be easy?

If you want to get new, targeted eyes on your business, the only non-paid way is hashtags. If you are just slapping on a few random hashtags every time you post, this one’s for you.

Hashtags are a vital component to your Instagram growth. They allow you to reach a much larger, specifically-targeted audience & have the ability to reel in potential leads, sales & new followers.

But how?

1.Make sure you include hashtags that are relevant to both the content & the audience you are trying to reach. If your post is about postpartum fitness and you hashtag # fashion, then the people searching that hashtag are going to have unmet expectations when they see your content. Unmet expectations right out of the gate is a bad foot to start a relationship with a customer. Plus, it’s annoying.

Use hashtags that are relevant to the subject of the post or to the specific audience that you’re targeting. You think you know your audience but think again. You can always dive a layer deeper. Are you targeting #moms or are you targeting #singlemoms, #boymoms or #stayathomemoms? Get specific.

2.Size Matters. If the hashtags you are using are too big, then you have so much competition and will never land in the “top posts” results for that tag (which means not many people will see it). If your hashtags are too small, then not enough people are searching that term to make it effective and you are wasting your time.

Ensure that you have multiple search pools for your hashtags (if you don’t know what I mean by this, you need to scroll to the bottom of this post and get in on the offer).

3.Mix It Up. You can’t use the same few hashtags every single time you post. They won’t be relevant to your content (unless you are talking about the same thing all the time, in which case you need to DM me) and Instagram will think you are spamming those hashtags and could flag your account. You also want to try new hashtags to get even more eyes on your business.

Also, hashtags grow, trend and stop being relevant. You should be constantly finding new hashtags to try and analyzing which ones are bringing new eyes to your business. Thankfully, it’s not as hard as it looks- keep reading.
